All About STEM: Engineering Your Future Warrington 2016
On Friday the 25th of November 2016, All About STEM facilitated Engineering Your Future Warrington at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. It was a sensational event inspiring future engineers!
Now in its sixteenth year in London and its tenth year in the North West, Engineering Your Future has become a key date in the diary of North West Secondary Schools and Sixth Form Colleges. This series of one day career events has been established to provide an opportunity for attendees to see that engineering is a career worth pursuing, and help them make an informed choice.
The day began with a welcome from Ron Faulkner from The Institution of Mechanical Engineers & All About STEM Managing Director Michelle Dow, followed by workshop sessions with STEM Ambassadors and expert engineers from AstraZeneca, Essar, Ansaldo NES, Campbell Reith and Croda.
Attendees had the opportunity to discuss the diverse and exciting careers available to them in engineering whilst taking part in fun hands-on activities with the professionals.
There was the chance to be a civil engineer for the day by building structures and testing materials. There were sessions on handling hazardous materials with grabbers and a glove box and all groups had the chance to avoid an emergency oil spillage and make self propelled cars!
An Engineering Careers Fair was available throughout the day providing information and advice for all on qualifications, training and apprenticeships.
Students had the opportunity to visit numerous college, business and organisation stands to learn more about the options available to them, there were plenty of freebies too!
Engineering Your Future is jointly coordinated and sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institution of Chemical Engineers, The Nuclear Institute and the British Computer Society, and is fully supported by STEM Learning and the Northwest STEM Centres.
Schools attending included, Broadgreen, UTC Warrington, Upton, Lymm, Range, Poynton, Rainford, Bishop Heber & Liverpool College.
