Big Bang Barrow is Back!
Big Bang Barrow is organised by STEM Cumbria Ltd. and the Barrow Engineering Project. Hosted by Furness College, it’s an inspirational STEM showcase bringing together more than 1,000 primary, secondary and further education students!
The event will be held on October 18 and 19 to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects through a series of interactive experiments.
Representatives from businesses across South Cumbria will explain their work and show off the latest technology used in their firms.
Tony Gill, of STEM Cumbria, said it was a wonderful opportunity to find out more about the wide range of careers available. “The Big Bang Fair has become a key STEM event in the calendar and people in education and business look forward to this each year. It will be the sixth year we have held this event and it gets better each time. It’s great to be able to hold this at Furness College, which has amazing facilities and a great reputation for training in STEM subjects. This is part of a programme of STEM activities in Furness designed to enthuse and excite young people about the potential of STEM careers in the future.”
Principal and Chief Executive of Furness College Andrew Wren said the college is committed to helping inspire the next generation of scientists, mathematicians and engineers. “This event brings together talented students and their potential future employers. It is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to experience innovation in business in a hands-on and fun way and see the creative side of engineering.”
Furness College staff will demonstrate robotic cranes and a virtual welder, there will be virtual reality, a computer coding competition, edible maths, 3D printing and more!
Alongside the college, organisations including Siemens, FACE, Gen 2, Lancaster University, University of Cumbria, National Skills Academy for Nuclear, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Electricity North West, Oxley Group, Wax Lyrical, Centrica, BAE Systems, GSK, Morecambe Bay Hospitals Trust, MCR Growth Company and Kimberly Clark will be supporting the event.
