The local IET North West Midlands branch is promoting an upcoming event which is free to members & non-members:
“Smart Buildings / Smart Meters”

Overview:
A Smart Building could be defined as addressing both intelligence and sustainability issues by utilising computer and intelligent technologies to achieve the optimal combinations of overall comfort level and energy consumption.
Smart meters measure your energy use and smart meters send your usage information through mobile networks to your supplier, it will also have an in home display (IHD), which will show you how much energy you use in real time and should help you to control your energy use.
The presentation will discuss in general terms the technology associated with them.”
