Apply for SHINE funding and help raise attainment!

SHINE is an education charity that gives children the opportunity to acquire the skills and confidence they need to turn their potential into success at school and beyond.

SHINE provides funding and support to schools and teachers to help them raise attainment for children from low income homes.

“We trial out new ideas to improve teaching and learning in schools and help the best ideas grow to scale. Each year we run a national funding competition for teachers called Let Teachers SHINE, which supports some of the brightest minds in teaching from across England. We also run targeted funding opportunities for the North of England, specifically the North East, North West and Yorkshire and Humber regions.”

SHINE has the following strategic priorities for all our funding programmes until 2021:

Ready for School: Improving the school readiness of children during the reception year, with a priority focus on language and communication skills (age 4-5)

Bridging the Gap: supporting vulnerable children who may not meet Age Related Expectations at primary school to make better academic progress during Key Stage 3 (age 9-14)

Flying High: supporting high attaining students to build on their achievements at primary school and stay on a high attaining trajectory during the first few years at secondary school (age 9-14).

“We are particularly interested in supporting projects that involve collaboration between colleagues in the different educational phases, for example professionals in primary and secondary schools working together. We are also interested in supporting programmes that aim to develop strong relationships with parents.”
