Big Bang North West 2019: Unilever Inspire Thousands with Sensational & Sustainable Science!
We were extremely proud to welcome Unilever as our new Headline Sponsor for The Big Bang North West 2019. Unilever have worked alongside All About STEM on numerous inspirational projects including their Bright Future Programme and we were overjoyed that after supporting our flagship event for many years, they wanted to take the lead!
The Big Bang North West is organised by All About STEM and is part of a programme led by EngineeringUK. Big Bang events enable young people to discover the exhilarating and rewarding careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths via fun, hands-on experiences.
Unilever’s stand was the event’s jewel in the crown. An enormous exhibit with a carousel of activities & an interactive virtual reality hub at it’s centre. From beginning to end it was packed with excited attendees all keen to investigate & experiment – truly inspirational!
Visiting students from across the region had the opportunity to learn about production & development. They could discover more about their hair (via microscopic technology), create their own shampoo and shampoo bar and understand how to package them in a sustainable way to help the planet.
They could meet with real life scientists, engineers & technicians, experience virtual science & find out about processing changes from lab to factory.
They learned about scaling up, how products differ and how their senses are important when developing & buying products.
Not forgetting Unilever’s (now legendary) photobooth… everyone loves a selfie!

Along with The Big Bang North West, Unilever also sponsored The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Competition. Competitors presented their projects with the opportunity to win Inspiration Awards from supporting sponsors or a place in the National Finals at the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham.
