Engineering Your Future Liverpool 2019: Inspiring Young Engineers!
On Friday the 11th of October, All About STEM were overjoyed to welcome over 120 budding engineers from local schools and sixth forms to Engineering Your Future Liverpool!
Now in its nineteenth year in London and its thirteenth year here in the North West, Engineering Your Future has become a key date in the diary of North West Secondary Schools and Sixth Form Colleges. This series of one day career events has been established to provide an opportunity for attendees to see that engineering is a career worth pursuing, and help them make an informed choice.
The day began with a warm welcome from All About STEM Managing Director, Michelle Dow before groups headed off to interactive workshops with expert engineers from CAL International, Smiths Medical, Atkins Global and John Crane.
CAL International talked about what they do & their apprenticeship opportunities before introducing their Electric Go Kart Conversion. Who would win the challenge?
Team CAL generously offered learners the chance win CAL International engineering packs & the opportunity to win a 3D printer for school!
In their session, Atkins Global invited students to engineer their own transport system for a concert arena or football stadium.
There was a lot to think about and numerous obstacles to overcome but all learners were keen to find the best solution. Awesome co-operation & planning!
John Crane started their session with an insightful Q & A with industry professionals, including BAE Systems & Sellafield Ltd.
Their workshop tested every future engineer to the limit, could you build a Bellows Seal?
Finally, Smiths Medical demonstrated how engineering makes a difference in care and asked students to create an oral delivery device.
Learners showcased their ideas to aid recovery and discussed how engineering supports health – an uplifting session!
Along with exciting hands-on workshops, Engineering Your Future included a Careers Marketplace providing information and advice for all.
Students had the opportunity to visit numerous college and organisation stands to learn more about the options available to them.
Throughout the day school groups also took part in STEM Ambassador Speed-Networking. Experts shared their career stories & learners could ask questions about their experiences.
