STEM Ambassadors: Visit/Skype primary schools & raise engineering aspirations!

The Trans-Pennine STEM Ambassador Hub are looking for Engineers to visit schools as part of a project to raise aspirations and enthusiasm for engineering. The schools are looking for people with a background or interest in engineering to visit one of their classes between February – April 2020.

“The visit would entail a Q+A with the pupils and would last about 30 minutes, but if you would like to stay for longer you would be very welcome! The class will be aged between 7-11 years old (each school has chosen a different age group to work with) and are very keen to talk to someone about engineering. We can provide some Q+A questions to create a dipping bag of questions for the visit, we will be suggesting to the teacher that the children prepare a few questions in advance that they would like to ask an engineer. We recommend taking a picture or an object related to your area of interest/engineering as the children would enjoy seeing something that they could then ask questions about.”

“The children will be taking part in an engineering project where they will be building an FM radio, so if you would like to go in as a VIP for this activity to encourage their skills, to celebrate their work or to talk to them about something related to sound, electronics or technology – that would be great!”

The Trans-Pennine STEM Ambassador Hub are looking for volunteers to visit schools in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Tameside and Wigan.

Engineers also have the option to ‘Skype a class‘.
The Skype session will take place on a mutually convenient date between Feb – April. Skype accounts can be provided along with some suggested questions in advance. STEM Ambassadors can be from any area of Engineering as the aim of the project is to raise awareness and aspirations of engineering. This session will take approximately 30 minutes.
