WISE: My Skills My Life – STEM Ambassador & Teacher Course
“WISE has an aim is to reach 200,000 girls over the next 4 years and we need the help of you, ambassadors and schools to do just that. Help us to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.”
My Skills My Life is available at www.myskillsmylife.org.uk and there are over 650 role models on the platform.
The tool features a personality quiz which can match those who complete it with role models and example job roles. “The tool takes skills the girls have and shows them some of the options in STEM that would allow them to be both happy & successful in a career.”
My Skills My Life can be taken into the classroom, into community groups and even big national events! The flexibility of the online tool is fantastic, and there is even a paper tool for situations where technology is limited.
“To ensure a high standard of sessions and consistency across the country, we have developed an online training course for STEM Ambassadors. The course touches on the awareness of unconscious bias and how that affects young people, and how to deliver My Skills My Life in a classroom or at an event.
The two simple modules talk you through the process and include easy to follow tasks to enhance your understanding. It should take about 40 minutes to complete both modules. The platform also provides all the basic resources necessary to run sessions.”
Ambassadors receive a certificate after the training has been completed and a session has been logged. Anyone can deliver the sessions, as long as they are passionate and enthusiastic about encouraging young people into the STEM sector.
