Unilever & All About STEM Bright Future Celebration & Awards 2021!

We are overjoyed to announce that our Unilever Bright Future 2021 winner is…

BISHOP HEBER HIGH SCHOOL!

Congratulations to Bishop Heber on a phenomenal planet-friendly project that focused on wellbeing and a huge well done to Liverpool Life Sciences UTC (2nd) and Range High School (3rd).

In 2020, All About STEM invited schools to take part in the Unilever Bright Future Programme hosted by Unilever Port Sunlight. Schools from across the region took part in activities that introduced them to processing, packaging, the environment and more. Following this, students had the opportunity to design their own environmentally friendly/sustainable product over a three month period and then present their ideas to Unilever experts!

This year due to the impact of Covid-19 we could not host our annual Celebration and Assessment Day at Hulme Hall in March, although this did not deter our resilient teams from completing their projects. Therefore the week commencing the 15th of March 2021, entrants virtually presented their projects to Unilever’s judges via Zoom.

Take a look below at the ingenious innovations from our top three teams!

Winner – 1st Place: Bishop Heber High School
Team: Phoebe, Joseph, Edward, Austin & Anna
Product: Positively Perfect Palms

“Team ‘UniHeber’ wanted to create a product that you would use in your everyday life and with the pandemic, we are washing our hands more than ever. They decided to focus on the well-being project and thought about ways in which we could incorporate positivity into our everyday lives. They designed a soap bar ‘Positively Perfect Palms’ that would reveal different positive messages as it was used. They focused on using materials and formulations that would be good for the environment so that it would benefit more than just the user, scents and colours that would be calming and included a QR code in the packaging that would link to calming music and meditation tutorials. They collected data from their peers when making decisions and created a social media platform and website to advertise their product, as well as thinking about costs, transport, logos and slogans.”

2nd Place: Liverpool Life Sciences UTC
Team: Aakash, Ahmed, Isaac, Malika & Ziad
Product: HBIIC Products

“We are the HBIIC – the Hygiene British Intelligence International Company. One step at a time. One idea at a time. One person at a time. Our aim, for this product, is to solve everyone’s issues regarding hair products (if they are natural or have harsh chemicals inside the product) because in today’s society, people are fortunately becoming more conscious of the brands and products they buy. This is why it makes sense to advertise our product in this day and age where a natural product is unique and special. Our product is a 3in1 shampoo, conditioner and body/face wash. We wanted to make a product that had factors of both the technical challenge and the environmental challenge. The shamditioner, our product, is a 3-in-one shampoo for the body, face and hair. It contains Aloe Vera, Cactus Oil, Lavender Oil, Rosemary Oil, Chamomile Roman Oil, Lemon Balm, Burdock Root and Biotin.”

3rd Place: Range High School
Team: Julius & Theo
Product: Eco Sanitiser

Range High School created a reusable and refillable eco-sanitizer with environmentally friendly packaging. A more sustainable product that was particularly useful during these times.

“Unilever Bright Future is a platform that helps unite and amplify the efforts of a growing community of people who believe it is possible to build a world where everyone lives well and lives sustainably. Who recognise we can only achieve this if we all work together to do small actions every day that make a real difference and who inspire others to join in making this the way everyone chooses to live.” – Unilever.

“As All About STEM, our mission is to facilitate events across the region that inspire STEM and engage students. We are so proud to support the Bright Future Programme again and see so many young people learning about sustainability, product design and development and the amazing STEM careers available with Unilever.” – Michelle Dow, Managing Director, All About STEM.

We are astounded every year by the quality of projects but this year more than any other we would like to commend our entrants on their resilience and dedication – a truly phenomenal effort. Congratulations once more!
