Nuffield Research Placements – Amazing Feedback!

The Nuffield Research Placements programme provides engaging, hands-on research projects, where Year 12 students have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution towards the work of a host organisation through a well-supervised but independent research collaboration relating to an area of science, quantitative social science, computing, technology, engineering or maths (or a combination).

If you’re thinking of getting involved as a student or a host organisation, there is no better way to discover the benefits of this programme than through a selection of our fantastic 2020/21 feedback!

Student: Malaika Iqbal – All About STEM: Nuffield Research Placement Celebration Event

I just wanted to say that the support I have received from the Nuffield team has been absolutely amazing! You have all been so thorough and helpful and are doing a great job in providing a platform where students can grow and develop!

Helen, you have been so helpful and have replied to every single email of mine almost instantly. That has given me such closure as I haven’t been waiting so long for a reply so I know what to do and can get on with it. Also, you are so lovely! Speaking to you and Alison on the CREST Award talk was lovely as you were both very engaging and clearly knew what you were talking about.

Even my placement coordinator has been very thorough and quick with replies to emails and has also been very engaging and enthusiastic! Along with Tig Williams who did the python training sessions, they were so fun!

I am so thankful to have been given this opportunity out of 18000 people! I was shocked when I was told that. You must have seen some potential in me which I am very grateful for. I am so excited about the placement and will do it to the best of my ability.

Student: Adam Blanchflower – All About STEM: Nuffield Research Placement Celebration Event

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my placement and found my research very interesting. My supervisor Dr Ellen Fry was brilliant throughout my placement. I cannot thank the Nuffield foundation enough for such a wonderful opportunity and the program has helped me to decide to carry on studying Biology at a higher level of education.

Host Organisation Feedback:

I got some great feedback from the students at the end of the placement which was lovely to hear. One of the questions I asked was how they think the experience could be improved and it was unanimous, that only being face to face would have improved it.  So overall, I would say that it was a success. They produced some really good reports.

On behalf of our team, I wanted to say thank you for all the support you provided throughout the selection process and the placement, and for your always prompt replies. Thank you also for the opportunity and we hope that the students learnt skills that will be useful to them in their future careers.
