LCR Mayor Celebrates Games Industry Programme for Students
On the 8th of October, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram joined games employers, community organisations and education and careers providers to celebrate a successful year of GameChangers.
Funded by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Careers Hub and facilitated by All About Futures & All About STEM, GameChangers brings together local games studios, community organisations and education and careers providers with a shared commitment to develop new pathways, partnerships, funding opportunities, and best practices that will enable people across the region to realise their talents in the gaming industry sector.
Members of GameChangers pledge to support the growth and development of gaming talent by working together to make the Liverpool City Region the best home for games development in the world.
“What began as a simple strategic intervention has grown into a powerful movement. In just a year, we’ve united over 30 member organisations and dedicated more than 2000 hours towards driving change. Seeing over 300 students participate in Experience of the Workplace events alone is proof that we’re helping to deliver better outcomes for young people in ways we couldn’t have imagined a year ago.” Gill Walsh, Strategic Careers Hub Lead, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
The Experience of the Workplace events raised awareness of careers in the Digital & Creative Industry & inspired hundreds of LCR Students from Year 10 and Year 12. Through a series of hands-on workshops, students were equipped with the knowledge and skills to support and inspire them to choose a career in the LCR Games Industry.
Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram launched GameChangers in 2023. In his address, he expressed his admiration for the programme, celebrated pledge members & highlighted the importance of the games industry in the Liverpool City Region. “We have an abundance of talent in the Liverpool City Region.”
