British Physics Olympiad: Junior & Senior

The British Physics Olympiad encourages the study of physics and recognises excellence in young physicists through ten annual physics competitions. The olympiad may be closed for online entries, but there is still time to enter the Junior and Senior Challenges on paper!

Junior Physics Challenge Competition – Years 9, 10, 11

Questions will be based on an assortment from Dynamics, Electricity, Optics, Heat and Units, with small amounts on Astronomy and Waves. Some questions are process of elimination, some are general knowledge and not classroom physics, and some are from the school curriculum. It is a Quiz, not an exam.

Sample questions are available on the BPhO website.

Challenge Date: Can be set anytime until Friday 16th May 2025 under teacher supervision

Senior Physics Challenge Competition (on paper) – Year 12

This is a traditional problem-based set of questions, it is not for students who have prepared but for all those who like to engage in problem-solving questions and developing those skills.

The best preparation is working through some of the past papers, there are numerous examples on the BPhO website.
