Astrophysics Research Institute: Work Experience
Each summer, the Astrophysics Research Institute (home to The Schools’ Observatory) runs a work experience week. This year, the week begins on Monday, 7th July to Friday, 11th July 2025.
“We welcome students from Year 12 (or equivalent) to this non-residential event. We especially encourage applications from students within the Liverpool City Region and those from under-represented groups in Higher Education and physics.“
Please note that only students who meet the eligibility criteria here will be considered.
The week consists of talks and workshops, which will give the students an idea of how professional research is done at a university.
Workshops include:
Introduction to Astrophysics
Telescopes Workshop
Astronomy Session
Live Robotic Observing Session
LJMU’s Robotic Telescopes
Astronomical Data Workshop
Science Communication
Introduction to Stars
Student Poster Project (across the week)
There will also be opportunities to talk with current students about what it is like to go to university.

Each day will start at 9.30 am and end at 4.45 pm.
The application form is now open and will close on the 22nd April 2025 (noon).
Applications received after this date will not be considered.
