Spotlight on the National Schools Observatory and LJMU’s Astrophysics Research Institute (Higher Education Institute)
Book onto EventThis session is part of All About STEM’s ‘Employer Spotlights’ series, to mark National Careers Week 2021 and support teachers to engage with local and regional employers.
In this session, we’ll meet with staff from LJMU’s Astrophysics Research Institute and the National Schools Observatory to find out about the work they do, the courses offered and careers available, as well as the support they can offer to schools and young people.
The Astrophysics Research Institute at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is one of the world’s leading authorities in astronomy and astrophysics. Their work encompasses a comprehensive programme of observational and theoretical research, telescope operation and instrument development, academic learning and outreach activities.
LJMU set up the National Schools’ Observatory (NSO) with the mission: Access to the Universe for All. The NSO uses the wonders of space to inspire the next generation of scientists, programmers and engineers. They provide free use of the world’s largest robotic telescope, the Liverpool Telescope (LT), sited on La Palma in the Canary Islands, to schools and individuals around the world.
