Engineering Your Future Warrington 2015: An amazing success!
On the 27th of November, MerseySTEM facilitated their annual Engineering Your Future event at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington. Over 100 budding engineers attended the event from schools and colleges throughout the region – it was an amazing success!
Now in its fifteenth year in London and its ninth year here in the North West, Engineering Your Future has become a key date in the diary of North West Secondary Schools and Sixth Form Colleges.
This series of one day career events has been established to provide an opportunity for attendees to see that engineering is a career worth pursuing, and help them make an informed choice.
The event was sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institution of Chemical Engineers, The Nuclear Institute and the British Computer Society, and fully supported by STEMNET and the Northwest STEM Centres.
This year, Engineering Your Future Warrington was opened by MerseySTEM’s Managing Director Michelle Dow and Warrington Borough Council Chief Executive, Steve Broomhead. Both commended attending students on their choice of academic pathway and encouraged them to embrace the experiences and opportunities to come.
Engineering Your Future provides both hands-on experience of and information on numerous engineering career options. As well as hearing from the experts what a career in engineering is like, students had the chance to see if they had a steady hand with Ansaldo NES. Could they handle hazardous materials using a real Glove Box? There was also the opportunity to make a recycled rocket car with AstraZeneca!
Even Team MerseySTEM experienced something new when they tried ‘mind-control Scalextric’ thanks to The University of Central Lancashire.
Workshops were provided by: AstraZeneca, Essar, SPX, Ansaldo NES, Campbell Reith and MerseySTEM
