Event: The Science of Superheroes (Ages 13+)
Event Date: Saturday 1st of October
Cosplay, special effects, robots, digital masks & more!
‘Unmasked: The Science of Superheroes’ is being delivered under the Reading Sparks banner which is a national project rolled out by the Reading Agency. This project is designed to engage children, young people and families with science through reading.
As part of this project, Halton libraries have co-created a unique event called Unmasked: The Science of Superheroes, (which is going to be awesome!)
“To give you a flavour Makocreate are joining us with a green screen and special effects space to discover how chroma key technology is used in film and photography to inspire creativity and transport you to any location. Whether you want to be swinging from buildings, flying through the sky or swimming the depths of the ocean we can help you capture the perfect green screen photo and turn it into a keepsake keyring to take home.”
“Professor Robert Walsh and his team from UCLan are delivering the superhero-themed activities which link beautifully to their very own ‘Unmasked: Science of Superheroes’ book as detailed here. This book is co-authored by seven practising UCLan scientists and reveals the scientific realities behind famous comic book legends and movies. A signed copy of this book will be included as a giveaway in the price of your ticket for the event!”
“The Public Engagement Team from Daresbury Laboratory are accompanying these activities with infrared and science busking demos, 3D printing, an accelerator in a salad bowl, and even Pepper the Robot will make an appearance.”
“If that is not enough, we also have digital mask making (which is a brand new state-of-the-art Makocreate activity), plus creative writing and various hands-on activities, as well as a masquerade and even pizza. So as you can see lots of fun in store!”
Young people can come along to the event in costume (optional) and join the team to find out if real-life superheroes really can exist!
