Christmas CREST Projects!
If you’re on the hunt for Christmas activities, there are lots of CREST projects that can be adapted for the festive season.
Your learners can design a Christmas event, prepare to party with decorations, entertainment, and snacks or make cards & gifts! We’ve brought together a list of ideas below, take a look.
Primary Projects
Superstar Awards (Ages 7-11)
Band Rollers – design, energy, forces & motion. Build a festive wind-up toy!
Bowled over – build & test a ten pin bowling game. Great fun for after Christmas dinner!
Cheesy Challenge – how cheese is made from milk. Who’s bringing the crackers?
Recycle Reuse – making paper and thinking about recycling paper. Create paper chains for the Christmas tree with your homemade paper.
Investigating Ink – identify different inks using chromatography. Beautiful patterns, perfect for making decorations or snowflakes!
Secondary Projects
Unboxed Creations (10-14)
Take on the role of event manager and design an extraordinary event or experience!
How about a Christmas Fair or Winter Wonderland with stalls that showcase STEAM?

Everyone knows that Christmas pizza is an app-delivery trend. Design the strongest (and most festive) pizza box, then test it out (templates are included). If you wish, you can make a delicious pizza to go inside. Yum!
Build a Disco Light (14+)
Lighting makes a party, right? This project gives you all the information and inspiration you need to design and build your own set-up!
Make Your Own Animation (11+)
You could create an animated film or flipbook card for a loved one at Christmas!
Make a Speaker System (16+)
You can’t have a party without music. These aren’t just any speakers, try comparing them to commercial ones.
Make your own Fizzy Drinks (11+)
Sweet, bubbly and delicious, what’s not to like? It’s your recipe so don’t forget to give your party beverage a name.

These are just a few fun suggestions, but CREST is not just for Christmas. There are so many projects to choose from throughout the year. Take a look!
CREST helps young people aged 5-19 to become independent and reflective learners through enquiry-based project work.
CREST Awards are flexible, can be run in schools, clubs or at home and have no set timetable. Projects can start whenever you want and take as long as you need – perfect during these unprecedented times.
CREST Primary: Star & Superstar
CREST Bronze Award: 10 hours in total
CREST Silver Award: 30 hours in total
CREST Gold Award: 70 hours in total
CREST Discovery: Can be completed in a day
As North West Regional CREST Support Organisation, All About STEM promote CREST Awards across the region and point schools & clubs to the support they need to run this amazing scheme. CREST Awards encourage students to work like scientists, researchers, engineers and designers to investigate and explore their own project ideas.
