IET Faraday® Challenge: Winning Feedback!

In October, Gateacre School won our first IET Faraday® Challenge Day of the season and we were overjoyed to receive amazing feedback about their team’s experience!

Gateacre School attended the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s IET Faraday® Challenge Day held at North Liverpool Academy alongside teams from Childwall Academy, Calderstones School, North Liverpool Academy, Archbishop Blanch C of E High School & St Edwards College.

During an IET Faraday® Challenge Day, students can become real-life engineers for a day when they research, design and build solutions to real engineering problems.

Miss Walsh, Science Co-ordinator, Gateacre School, said, “We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our Year 8 Gateacre winners of the I ETFaraday Challenge, the first winners of the season! The team demonstrated exceptional teamwork and creativity, with Franky, Charlie, and Nedas particularly enjoying the competitive nature of the event. Eliza reflected on the experience, noting that “it was a great learning experience which can open up many opportunities”, highlighting the invaluable skills and insight into STEM gained in the competition. Karlene echoed this, expressing her enthusiasm for “working as a team”. The students had a fantastic time designing and building their prototype, immersing themselves in the fascinating world of Engineering. Through this process, they also developed their presentation skills, effectively showcasing their prototype to both the competing teams and the judges.”

“This experience has not only enriched their understanding of engineering principles but also instilled a sense of confidence and pride in their capabilities. The entire school community is bursting with pride for these talented individuals, and to celebrate their well-deserved victory, the students enjoyed a special breakfast with our Principal, Mr. Jamil. This was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on their hard work and achievements and to inspire fellow students to pursue their passions in STEM. Congratulations to Franky, Charlie, Nedas, Eliza, and Karlene—your success is an inspiration to us all!”

Congratulations Team Gateacre, we’re delighted you gained so much from the challenge and enjoyed your day!
