All About STEM CASE STUDIES
We work on lots of different projects to bring exciting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to schools across the region, linking them with business and industry to inspire the next generation of STEM specialists. When it comes to schools, we’re here to make STEM fun!
Our participating businesses are invaluable as they support, enrich and enhance our student activities. Their outreach is not just about corporate social responsibility, they return to us time after time as they have witnessed first-hand how inspirational their help can be. They are proud to be a part of what we do.

Scottish Power Days
All About STEM developed a Scottish Power taster day, and this has been delivered by the team in partnership with Scottish Power staff successfully for the last two years. The aim of the day is to enthuse and excite pupils about the opportunities in Scottish Power for engineers. In particular, they wanted to inform people about the trainee and apprentice opportunities in the company. Each year this interactive day has inspired 60 local pupils with a range of activities and talks related to the opportunities available, such as building a model pylon. They then attended careers talks by both All About STEM and were informed about what they would be doing at West Cheshire College. All of the attendees were able to apply to the openings. On each of the days about half of all those that attended applied. Some of the trainees who were appointed to the positions had attended the taster day - a real successful outcome.
All About STEM has been working with the NHS for several years ensuring that schools in the region can access ambassadors who work in the NHS. We were then approached to assist them in providing innovative workshops to improve their outreach and careers advice. All About STEM has been working with Classroom Medics to produce hands on workshops to show a range of NHS careers and the wide variety of STEM subjects that are useful in health and allied professions. We're completing a comprehensive evaluation of these workshops in terms of value for money and improvement in careers knowledge. We'll then be recommending other strategies to compliment these workshops. When the project is finished we'll be helping roll out the project nationally.
Plus Dane Group signs up staff as STEM Ambassadors
Download the Plus Dane STEM Ambassador Brochure Plus Dane Group works as a neighbourhood investor (Ni) & has more than 18,000 homes in ownership and management across Merseyside and Cheshire, employing over 800 people. In a further commitment to the local community, the company has signed up several of their staff as STEM ambassadors, helping to enrich the lives and future prospects of students in Ellesmere Port and Neston. Plus Dane staff from a number of departments across the organisation’s Civic Way office and Rossfield Road depot are volunteering their time to share their knowledge and give inspirational advice to young people considering their future. These include employees in construction and maintenance, business development, IT, and support services for local residents. The Plus Dane ambassadors are offering to visit local schools, and will also support local events, as well as providing opportunities for job shadowing and work placements. Staff say they are keen to share their experiences and encourage young people to explore options including higher education, apprenticeships and workplace learning, as well as showing young women how they can forge careers in traditionally male-dominated industries like construction. Plus Dane director Hayley Hulme said: “We are delighted to be able to support the STEM programme. Ellesmere Port is traditionally a centre of industry and continues to attract significant investment in jobs and business; with the right skills and qualifications local young people have the opportunity to develop excellent careers and to contribute to supporting a vibrant local economy for the town long into the future.” Michelle Dow, managing director of All About STEM, said: "We are delighted to be working with Plus Dane Group who are supporting the STEM Ambassador scheme. It is vital that we provide our young people with real, positive role models to inspire the next generation to choose STEM subjects."
