All About STEM CASE STUDIES
We work on lots of different projects to bring exciting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to schools across the region, linking them with business and industry to inspire the next generation of STEM specialists. When it comes to schools, we’re here to make STEM fun!
Our participating businesses are invaluable as they support, enrich and enhance our student activities. Their outreach is not just about corporate social responsibility, they return to us time after time as they have witnessed first-hand how inspirational their help can be. They are proud to be a part of what we do.

Scottish Power Days
MerseySTEM developed a Scottish Power taster day, and this has been delivered by the team in partnership with Scottish Power staff successfully for the last two years. The aim of the day is to enthuse and excite pupils about the opportunities in Scottish Power for engineers. In particular they wanted to inform people about the trainee and apprentice opportunities in the company. Each year this interactive day has inspired 60 local pupils with a range of activities and talks related to the opportunities available, such as building a model pylon. They then attended careers talks by both MerseySTEM and were informed about what they would be doing at West Cheshire College. All of the attendees were able to apply to the openings. On each of the days about half of all those that attended applied. Some of the trainees who were appointed to the positions had attended the taster day - a real successful outcome.
MerseySTEM has been working with the NHS for several years ensuring that schools in the region can access ambassadors who work in the NHS. We were then approached to assist them in providing innovative workshops to improve their outreach and careers advice. MerseySTEM has been working with Classroom Medics to produce hands on workshops to show a range of NHS careers and the wide variety of STEM subjects that are useful in health and allied professions. We're completing a comprehensive evaluation of these workshops in terms of value for money and improvement in careers knowledge. We'll then be recommending other strategies to compliment these workshops. When the project is finished we'll be helping roll out the project nationally.
