Maths: Primary & Secondary ‘Tax Facts’ Programme from HMRC

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has recently launched a new tax education programme for primary and secondary school children. The programmes contain exercises and resources that can be used by teachers in mathematics lessons, to show how maths principles apply in the real world.

Junior Tax Facts explains to children, in very simple terms, what tax is and why it is needed – to provide the money to pay for the things that‎ are essential to them, their families, communities and society as a whole.

The programme consists of a short animated video, available on YouTube or on DVD, supported by a comprehensive teachers’ pack, with lesson plans and interactive exercises, available to view or download from the TES website. Teachers can receive the video on DVD by emailing HMRC for copies.

Tax Facts is an award-winning tax education programme for secondary school pupils age 14 to 17. It was named ‘Best Free Educational Product of the Year’ in the 2016 Education Resources Awards. There are four Tax Facts videos, which can be viewed on YouTube and the supporting teachers’ pack is also on the TES website.

All materials are free of charge, the content was developed by maths teachers and has been very well received.

You can also find the Tax Facts videos in the Maths section of our YouTube channel. There are hundreds of categorised STEM videos there for you to use and enjoy!
