Grants for schools to run a Gopher Science Lab Day

A Gopher Science Lab Day is an awesome idea for a science class or STEM Club! It also offers older children the chance to pass their knowledge on to younger groups, perfect for the Primary to Secondary transition.

Thanks to generous support from the Biochemical Society the Society of Biology is able to offer grants which will enable up to 60 schools across the UK to host either:

A Gopher Science Lab day at their school, or, A Gopher Science Lab day followed by hosting and leading a training session for surrounding schools.

Gopher Science Labs use simple hands-on science activities designed to facilitate learning by primary aged children. Simple household items, familiar analogies, simple language and fun are used to encourage children’s natural curiosity to find out how and why everyday things work.

Secondary schools can run Gopher Science Labs days with their feeder primary schools. Secondary students are trained to become demonstrators and later deliver to, and discuss the activities with primary pupils on transition days. During this process the secondary students develop their skills in communication, innovation and increased self-confidence.

Contact [email protected] if you would like help applying or arranging your day. We have FREE STEM Ambassadors who can offer their support and knowledge too!

More information is available on the Society of Biology website.
The deadline for applications is 25th May 2015.
