MerseySTEM Chemistry at Work Event: October 2015

On the 21st of October 2015, MerseySTEM facilitated another amazing Chemistry at Work event in conjunction with The Royal Society of Chemistry at Sci-Tech Daresbury.

Throughout the course of the day students attended hands-on workshops from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Science and Technology Facilities Council, Science2U & Techniquest Glyndŵr.

Local schools attending included: The Mosslands School, The Hawthorne’s Free School, Rainford High School, Knowsley Park School, Birkdale High School, De La Salle High School, Bridgewater High School & Hilbre High School.

Students enjoyed the fun, interactive learning experiences and left with a real sense of how Chemistry applies in the real world. They had the opportunity to experience everything from creating vaccines to forensics – CSI style!

MerseySTEM’s Managing Director Michelle Dow explained the concept, “Chemistry at Work events offer young people the opportunity to appreciate the place of chemistry in everyday life and the world of work.”

“They aim is to show a positive image of the chemical sciences and to present them as exciting, interesting and wealth-creating activities that are worth considering as the basis of a career.”
