GETRAG FORD Apprenticeship: Multi-Skilled Engineering Technician

Waterside Training in partnership with GETRAG FORD Transmissions based in Halewood has a fantastic opportunity for apprentices to join their maintenance department to support the manufacturing operations.

Founded in 2001 as a 50:50 joint venture between GETRAG and Ford of Europe, as a full automotive service system supplier. GETRAG FORD Transmissions develops and manufactures transmissions and employs c650 people at the Halewood manufacturing plant.

APPRENTICESHIP MULTI-SKILLED ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

The four year engineering apprenticeship will initially cover broad based training in Electrical and Mechanical skills at Waterside Training in St Helens with years 2,3 and 4 working on plant at Halewood alongside qualified craftsmen whilst continuing to attend college day release up to HNC.

The Maintenance Craft apprenticeship will include activities such as; machine and equipment maintenance, fault finding and diagnostics, using preventative maintenance systems, restoring components undertaking repair, replacement and servicing. Apprentices will complete a programme of theoretical and practical learning. On completion of your broad based training you will work with experienced maintenance engineers on plant at Halewood tackling “real life” activities.

Typical working hours will be 37.5 hours per week and once onsite a willingness to work shift work on completion of the apprenticeship is essential. Starting salary £16,148 upwards to £27,028 per annum in year 4.

Entry Requirements: 5 GCSE’s at A-C or equivalent grade 5 in English, Mathematics and Science is essential. A practical based subject in Design Technology, Electronics, Engineering and or Resistant Materials would be desirable.

The ideal candidate should have a genuine desire to be a maintenance craft person with the level of drive and commitment necessary to embrace the learning opportunity with a mechanical/electrical aptitude, an analytical ability and good problem solving skills with a methodical approach to work.
