Big Bang North West 2019: Institute of Ageing & Chronic Disease – ‘Test-a-Tendon’ & More!

Can your tendons take your weight? Visit the Institute of Ageing & Chronic Disease stand at The Big Bang North West & find out!

“The University of Liverpool’s Comparative Musculoskeletal Sciences research group’s stand will aim to demonstrate the importance of normal functioning of musculoskeletal tissues and contrast them with aged tissues.

We will have models of normal and aged joints, cartilage and tendon, along with posters explaining their microstructure and function. Some models are also hands-on and allow handling from visitors to see the tissues in action.

We will also demonstrate just how strong a tendon can be with our ‘tendon suspension rig’; a rig from which we will suspend ourselves from a tendon.

Finally, we will have an interactive hand model allowing visitors to perform tasks by pulling and releasing tendons, as well as its aged equivalent with stiffer joints, plus a competition!”

The Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease is using world-class research to improve the quality of life of millions of people on an international scale.
