Daresbury Laboratory Virtual Accelerator & Particle Physics Masterclass 2021

As part of their ongoing support for schools during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Daresbury Laboratory is delivering their annual Accelerator and Particle Physics Masterclass online in 2021.

The aim of this event is to give students an introduction to accelerator technology and the exciting physics behind these amazing machines.

The event will include a range of interesting talks, virtual tours and interactive demonstrations that will fire your students’ imagination and inspire them about cutting edge science and technology, as well as STEM career opportunities.

Activities will include:

– Virtual tours of Diamond Light Source/Boulby Underground Laboratory
– Vacuum & superconductivity demos
– Electromagnetism talk for particle accelerators
– Interactive activity based on conservation of energy in particle collisions
– Q&A careers session with experts

Registering your Interest

This event is aimed primarily at sixth form students and GCSE students considering studying science at A Level, and is relevant to 3.2 of the AQA curriculum.

“We understand that schools are facing unprecedented challenges at present, and students have limited time for activities or events that take them off timetable. After the closing date for responses, all schools expressing an interest will be contacted by email to offer them the chance to fully register their place.
This email will be sent by 8 March, and registered places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. A waiting list will be created when the maximum is reached.
