I’m a Scientist: FREE Debate Kits
The I’m a Scientist Debate Kits are free and develop students’ discussion skills around scientific issues. They allow you and your students to debate and discuss the power and limitations of science, and then consider the ethical issues which may arise.
The kits contain 8 debate cards outlining the opinions of fictional characters with an interest in a given science topic, and teachers notes to help you to carry out the lesson effectively.
The science curriculum calls for a greater understanding of the limitations of science and the potential ethical questions surrounding it. The kits provide role-play situations to offer students the opportunity to explore the different sides of the issue and compare others’ points of view.
For teachers, the kits provide an effective and structured resource containing up-to-date information, which can be used again and again with little effort or preparation. They are also a great way to introduce ethical issues that are otherwise difficult to bring out in the classroom.
