CREST Awards: School Waste-free Lunch

This Bronze CREST Award could encourage your learners to be waste-free in school!

The idea of this project is to introduce a new school lunch programme. Students work through the CREST booklet completing tests and research to produce a leaflet and/or poster presentation. Their programme should inspire pupils to use recycled or reusable packaging in their lunches.

What sorts of packaging do people use in their packed lunches?
How much of it is reusable?
Is any of the waste biodegradable?

From the 31st of March 2025, recycling and collection measures in schools are changing. This project is a fantastic way to encourage learners to ‘think waste-free’ and separate their packaging and food waste when they walk to the recycle bins.

Bronze Awards

CREST Bronze Awards are 10-hour projects aimed at learners aged 11+.
Teams of students can experience what it is like to be scientists or engineers as they design their own investigations, record their findings, and reflect on their learning.

As North West Regional CREST Support OrganisationAll About STEM promote CREST Awards across the region and point schools & clubs to the support they need to run this amazing scheme. CREST Awards encourage students to work like scientists, researchers, engineers and designers to investigate and explore their own project ideas.
