Celebrate British Science Week: Creative Science Workshop Day @ FACT!
Celebrate British Science Week at FACT!
MerseySTEM are pleased & proud to promote this event on behalf of FACT (The Foundation for Arts Creative & Technologies) and British Science Association.
14th March 2016 9.30am
Book to bring a group of students (Yr7/8) to FACT for a day of creative science workshops! To celebrate British Science Week, scientists and artists are taking over FACT to deliver a range of activities designed to get students excited about art and science – particularly astrophysics.
This is a special event where students will be getting hands-on with a range of professionals from the science and creative technology world. You’ll get the chance to experience four different workshops on the day:
- Liverpool University’s computing department will bring their Lego Rovers, which students will learn to programme as though they are exploring other planets
- Students will experience an immersive art installation showing the birth of a star, before designing and projecting their own artwork in our gallery space
- Experimental creative space FACTLab will host a hands-on activity using electronics to create a ‘constellation in a cup’, exploring the mythology of constellations and why stars are grouped in that way
- There will also be a programmable Minecraft map designed to demonstrate the scale of the universe around us
This is a flagship event for British Science Week, and FACT is working with The British Science Association and MerseySTEM to deliver this one-off celebration of art and science.
Students will develop teamwork skills, a curiosity about astrophysics, and see how creativity and science work hand-in-hand to discover the mysteries of the universe.
We have space for 80 students, in groups of 10 per school
Please bring a packed lunch!
