Big Bang North West: The Engineering College – Virtual Welding & PPE Racing
Grab your masks everyone! The Engineering College will be testing your welding skills and more at The Big Bang North West!
We’re excited to announce that The Engineering College will be bringing a virtual welding simulator to give attendees the opportunity to test their skills (without the sparks).
There will also be Health and Safety PPE available for students (and teachers) to try on. Get your friends together and take part in a kit time-trial!
“We are very excited to participate in this year’s Big Bang North West; this is the second time we have decided to exhibit and it’s a great opportunity to meet some aspiring individuals! As a business we thrive through opportunities like this, where we are able to connect industry and education by promoting opportunities within the engineering sector.
Engineering has a great impact in the UK, from the transport we use to the roads we travel on, we work across nine different sectors as diverse as medical engineering to maritime engineering, rail and manufacturing.
We strive to inspire a new generation of engineers.
In the ‘Year of Engineering’, we’re proud to participate in such a large scale event that really shines a light on what the industry has to offer and the skills needed to drive the industry forward into the future. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for local businesses and the Liverpool City Region to show off its regional assets and STEM talent!”
The Big Bang North West is going to be AMAZING!
We’re FULLY BOOKED but don’t worry, you can add yourself to our waiting list and we are still open for Big Bang UK competition entrants.

The Engineering College
The Engineering College is a leading training organisation across Merseyside, specialising in level 3 and 4 Engineering Apprenticeships and pre-employment programmes, to inspire the city’s future engineers. 2018 marks the 20th Anniversary and since opening their doors in 1998, they have trained over 10,000 students.
Opportunities
We work with over 90 local employers across the Liverpool City Region, many of whom are looking to recruit this September! In addition to level 3 and 4 apprenticeships, we also deliver pre-apprenticeship and pre-employment skills training, which has received the backing of some nationally recognised companies.
Each year, we recruit over 150 students across all programmes. This summer, we’re looking to fill over 60 places for a September start. We receive hundreds of applications each year and look for the best candidates with a real passion for engineering and an aspiration to develop, who we can offer these places to.
Employer Relationships
We have great relationships with our employers, putting employers and learners at the heart of our success. Over 70% of apprentices who completed their apprenticeship in 2017/2018 successfully gained full time employment and job security with their employer.
