Celebrating Unilever’s sponsored delivery of the Reading is STEMsational project – Bright Future Primary Excite!
We are extremely proud to partner with Unilever to deliver an amazing range of primary and secondary school engagement projects.
The Unilever team recognises that if they want young people to apply for STEM-focused apprenticeships and graduate-entry roles at the ages of 16, 18 or beyond, they need to help children understand and enjoy Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths from a very early age.
The Bright Future Excite Programme helps pupils in Y1-6 (ages 5-11) understand how the work done at the Unilever Port Sunlight R&D site relates to their schoolwork and the world in which they live. The programme involves Unilever sponsored delivery of the Reading is STEMsational project to a selected number of primary schools each year.
Reading is STEMsational is a primary school literacy project that enables schools to use their Literacy and Science curricula as the basis for a whole-school STEM week, enhanced with enrichment and careers-aspiration activities.
The project aims to:
• Upskill teachers in understanding the need for career-related learning at primary level, (to support, in part, the future skills pipeline)
• Support pupils’ acquisition of Science Capital
There are currently three themes to choose from for the STEM Weeks:
• Blue Planet
• Conservation
• Engineering
Working with us, Unilever staff developed a series of classroom activities for each year group, which can be delivered as part of each school’s involvement in the programme.
A total of 3359 young learners have benefited so far, with more to come.
Our next cohort of schools will soon be starting their STEM weeks!
