All About STEM: Engineering Your Future Liverpool 2016

Engineering Your Future Liverpool took place on Friday the 14th of October 2016 and we were overjoyed to welcome our schools and sixth formers to Anfield.

Now in its sixteenth year in London and its tenth year here in the North West, Engineering Your Future has become a key date in the diary of North West Secondary Schools and Sixth Form Colleges. This series of one day career events has been established to provide an opportunity for attendees to see that engineering is a career worth pursuing, and help them make an informed choice.3

The day began with a welcome from All About STEM Managing Director Michelle Dow, followed by workshop sessions with STEM Ambassadors and expert engineers from AECOM, Essar, Scott SafetyAtkins Global and The Royal Air Force.

Attendees had the opportunity to discuss the diverse and exciting careers available to them in engineering whilst taking part in fun hands-on activities with the professionals.

Along with spaghetti structures and problem solving, groups had the chance to complete project work to ‘avoid an emergency oil spillage’ and experience thermal imaging and virtual reality technologies!

An Engineering Careers Fair was available throughout the day providing information and advice for all.

Students had the opportunity to visit numerous college, business and organisation stands to learn more about the options available to them…

…there were games and freebies too!

Engineering Your Future is jointly coordinated and sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institution of Chemical Engineers, The Nuclear Institute and the British Computer Society, and is fully supported by STEM Learning and the Northwest STEM Centres.

Schools attending included, Formby High, Range High, Sutton Academy, Hope Academy, Gateacre, King David High, Notre Dame, St Edwards, St John Bosco, Belvedere, St Francis Xavier, Calderstones, Deyes High & Wirral Grammar for Boys.

Safe to say (without a spillage in sight) Engineering Your Future Liverpool was a roaring success! Thank you to everyone involved, the venue, professionals and our attending schools.
