Big Bang North West: Meet the Volunteer – AstraZeneca’s Paul Corbishley
The Big Bang North West may be the largest, most STEM-sational event in our region, but the day wouldn’t be half as successful without our team of enthusiastic (and fantastic) volunteers who give up their time to support it.
Over the coming weeks we’ll be introducing you to some of these invaluable & inspirational stars, it wouldn’t be the same without them!
Meet the Volunteer – Paul Corbishley
Paul works for AstraZeneca, a global bio-pharmaceutical, involved in researching, developing and manufacturing medicines to be used by millions of patients worldwide. He is a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) – which basically means he is recognised in the UK as a professional engineer. Although not in an engineering role at the moment, he still uses at the lot of engineering skills on a day-to-day basis. He is also a School Governor at his daughter’s primary school.
Paul’s current job role is Global Quality Director at AstraZeneca’s Macclesfield Campus in Cheshire. He is responsible for setting quality standards and procedures for the company’s 29 manufacturing sites, ensuring that the medicines you take do what they should do.
When we asked Paul why he wanted to volunteer at BBNW he said, ‘I want to help promote STEM subjects, particularly engineering, to school pupils from across the NorthWest; to show that there are many different routes to get a job, via both apprenticeships and academia; and to make sure everyone at the event has a safe and enjoyable time! I’m really looking forward to seeing all the children enjoying themselves at the many interactive stands, shows and exhibits – bringing STEM subjects to life!!’
