LCR Make It Work Schools Robotics Challenge (Open Heat): Archbishop Beck WINS!
“I really enjoyed myself & I’ve learned so much!”
Fantastic! Archbishop Beck High School have won the final heat of the Liverpool City Region Make It Work Robotics Challenge for schools.
On the 7th of March, schools from across the region gathered at Liverpool Hope University to take part in the LCR Make It Work Robotics Challenge, supported by the Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor, Steve Rotheram and facilitated by All About STEM.
Students had the opportunity to build a VEX robot and battle it out in an exciting arena-style competition, supported by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. Sessions showcased careers linked to manufacturing and engineering, highlighted pathways into them and developed skills. Schools were supported throughout the day by All About STEM & a team of expert STEM Ambassadors.
All schools demonstrated phenomenal teamwork, built amazing bots and battled hard but it was Archbishop Beck & St Mary’s Catholic College who made it through the rounds. With only one space remaining in the Grand Final, every student was on the edge of their seat as the final point was scored.
Congratulations to Archbishop Beck and to all competitors, a sensational heat!
Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: “It is brilliant to see so many young people enjoying the Make It Work Robotics Challenge. Sparking young people’s interest and enthusiasm is a vital part of getting more of them into studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects and subsequently into exciting and rewarding careers. That is exactly what this competition does and why we are proud to support it.”
Michelle Dow, Managing Director of All About STEM said: “It is essential for our region’s future prosperity that young people have the skills they need and are enthused and excited to pursue them. We offer ‘in-person’ inspiration from real experts while learning real-life skills. Our events provide an interactive, exciting experience that can ignite our young people’s passion and spark their interest in STEM careers… and it’s so much fun! Our students are excited, focused and engaged, we’re so proud of them. They are all winners to us. Thank you to the Metro Mayor & Combined Authority for their amazing support.”
Archbishop Beck will return at the end of March to compete in the LCR Make It Work Robotics Challenge Grand Final at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool.

Special thanks to St Mary’s Catholic College for sending us this awesome event montage along with their fantastic feedback:
“I just wanted to say thank you to you and the team for organising this event and letting us bring 3 teams. The students and staff that were able to attend the day have been buzzing since they got back to school. I am jealous I could not get off timetable to come myself.
I also wanted to share with you and the team the video we put together of our students experience of the day. Thank you once again. Any more events like this I will not miss that opportunity!”
