WES YMB: ‘Give Yourself the Edge’ High School Competition

This month the WES Young Members’ Board (YMB) has announced a new essay writing competition!

The challenge will help provide high school students with something that can help ‘Give Them the Edge’ when completing their university, college, apprenticeship or job applications and get them thinking about Engineering as a career option.

Perfect for a STEM activity or STEM Club, right? Excellent!

The deadline for the competition is Wednesday 1 November 2017. 

The judging has been split into two age brackets:

  • 11-14 Years Old
  • 15-18 Years Old

Members of the Women’s Engineering Society will judge the competition and the competition is open to all genders. Every applicant will receive recognition for their entry which they can use as evidence of their participation. A number of Highly Commended certificates will also be issued.

Produce an essay on ‘Engineering a Better World’
(Maximum 1000 words)
How do engineers change the world for the better?
What can we do to engineer a better world?
Think global health, the environment, renewable energy…

Why?
Applying for College or University? An Apprenticeship?
Build up your CV and stand out from the crowd by demonstrating you’ve thought in depth about Engineering and how it impacts everybody.
