Liverpool Girl Geeks: Teen girls can apply now for Playstation Bootcamp!

Following a successful pilot project in 2016, the STEM-sational Liverpool Girl Geeks have launched their second round of Bootcamp for teens!

There’s more amazing news too, as their 2017 programme is sponsored by Playstation® (Sony Interactive Entertainment) and will be held at Liverpool’s state of the art Studio School, in the Baltic Triangle area.

Liverpool Girl Geeks create positive events, courses and workshops to inspire women and girls of all ages.

They celebrate and showcase role models within the tech sector and did we mention they ROCKED at The Big Bang North West with their Role Model Roulette and STEM Selfie Photobox?

Applications for their PlayStation Bootcamp are now open!
Sessions start on Tuesday 28th February for 6 weeks ending 4th of April.

Sessions will be held weekly at the Studio School, every Tuesday from 6pm – 8pm and will cover a wide range of topics over the 6 weeks including coding, VR, role models and careers in the tech industry. You don’t want to miss this!

To apply, girls need to be aged between 11 and 14 years old and aspire to have a future career in tech. Girls need to fill in a short application form and submit a short video about why they would like a place and what it means to them (no more than 30 seconds long).

Applications close on the 14th of February 2017.
Successful candidates will be told by Monday 20th Feb.
Please note that girls who have attended the first Bootcamp cannot reapply.

*Only 15 girls will be accepted onto the bootcamp, please make sure when applying that you are available for each session. If you can’t attend them all, or you are aged over 14, check out the Tech 4 Teens monthly sessions, which are running throughout the year.

Tech for Teens is supported by the Big Lottery Fund. The programme aims to attract over 400 girls to the sessions throughout the year. The workshops are for girls aged between 11 and 16 and are open to all. Plans are also in place to run further teen Academies in 2017, in partnership with FACT.

Jo Morfee, Director at Liverpool Girl Geeks: “We believe that our teen programmes are an essential part of the longer term strategy to tackle the current gender imbalance and skills gap in the technology sector. The digital and tech sector is continuously evolving and as a result there are so many fantastic job opportunities out there. These girls are the future of tech and it is so rewarding to be able to work with them closely to inspire and support them into the industry. ”

Michelle Tilley, Senior Release Manager at Playstation®: “There is an gender imbalance within our technology sector and we need to take action now to ensure a more balanced and inclusive industry for the future. The Games Industry is an amazing place to work so we should actively encourage young women to join it by inspiring, championing and empowering them to achieve their dreams. I believe by supporting Liverpool Girl Geeks we are working towards this culture change.”
