Big Bang North West: A Big Bang @ Darwen Aldridge Community Academy!

WOW! What an event! Congratulations to Darwen Aldridge Community Academy on hosting one of our biggest Big Bang @ School events!

On the 6th of March, Darwen Aldridge Community Academy hosted a Big Bang @ School event alongside their Hive Skills 17 Showcase with Lancashire Enterprise Adviser Network.

Hive engages with partners to provide a framework for businesses to help them meet their future skills needs and through facilitated involvement, supports the borough’s young citizens by providing learning, experiences and careers guidance.

The Big Bang @ Darwen Aldridge Community Academy included workshops and activities from IMechE, Festival of Making, Health Careers UK (NHS), Transportation Training Academy, WEC GroupThe National Citizen Service, CHA Technologies Group, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, Outdoor Elements and many more.

As always, all activities were interactive and hands-on. Students ‘took a shot’ at sports science, tried their hand at fabrication and became trainee engineers.

They had the opportunity to get creative with the Festival of Making and take part in motivational team building, whilst problem solving with Outdoor Elements.

When it came to Science, friends of The Big Bang North West, Hi-Impact Consultancy were on hand to deliver their Sensational Science Show, Matter Matters!

Hi Impact’s Bob & Georgia involved students throughout their amazing performance. There were flying fish, flaming whoosh bottles and explosions along with a demonstration of how to make plasma from grapes… in a microwave!

[DO NOT TRY THESE AT HOME!]

Their slimy ‘study of sound’ was also a big hit along with their ‘Oobleck’ investigation, a liquid that solidifies on impact.

You need to keep moving or you sink! Take a look…

Congratulations to Darwen Aldridge Community Academy on a truly STEM-sational event. Everyone enjoyed every messy and explosive experiment!

The Big Bang @ School supports schools to deliver an event to excite pupils about STEM subjects and inspire them to consider science or engineering careers.

A Big Bang @ School Fair can be big or small, you can invite local businesses to take part, involve STEM ambassadors, bring in activity providers or do it all by yourself. The important thing is that pupils have fun finding out where their STEM studies can lead them.

The Big Bang @ School is part of the wider Big Bang programme, led by EngineeringUK in partnership with over 200 organisations.
