Liverpool City Region Make It Work Robotics Challenge: Sefton Heat – Greenbank High School WIN!

‘An inspirational STEM event!’

Fantastic news! Greenbank High School have won the first heat of the Liverpool City Region Make It Work Robotics Challenge for schools!

On the 27th of November, schools from Sefton gathered at Hugh Baird College to take part in the LCR Make It Work Robotics Challenge, supported by the Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor, Steve Rotheram and facilitated by All About STEM.

CNC Robotics sponsored the Sefton Heat and attended the event alongside All About STEM & STEM Ambassadors to support the teams.

Students had the opportunity to build a VEX robot and battle it out in an exciting arena-style competition, supported by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. Sessions showcased careers linked to manufacturing and engineering, highlighted pathways into them and developed skills.

The competition was close and every school battled bravely but after a nail-biting final between Birkdale & Greenbank High School, Greenbank took the title!

The winning team couldn’t contain their excitement, “I feel like I’m famous, this has been a brilliant day!”

Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: “It is brilliant to see the Make It Work Robotics Challenge get off to such an exciting start. Sparking young people’s interest and enthusiasm is a vital part of getting more of them into studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects and subsequently into exciting and rewarding careers. That is exactly what this competition does and why we are proud to support it.”‬

Madina Barker, Director of CNC Robotics said: “What a fantastic day! It has been so exciting to share our experience and passion for automation and inspire our regional schools at the Liverpool City Region Make It Work Robotics Challenge. As an innovative company, we are dedicated to promoting STEM and introducing more young people to the real-life skills they need is vital. By partnering with All About STEM we can achieve that and see those skills applied… and the children enjoy it so much! We are proud to have sponsored today’s heat and look forward to working more with All About STEM. Well done to all attending schools, sensational work!”

Michelle Dow, Managing Director of All About STEM said: “It is essential for our region’s future prosperity that young people have the skills they need and are enthused and excited to pursue them. We offer ‘in-person’ inspiration from real experts while learning real-life skills. Our events provide an interactive, exciting experience that can ignite our young people’s passion and spark their interest in STEM careers… and it’s so much fun! We are extremely proud of our teams today – excited, focused and engaged, their faces said it all. Thank you to the Metro Mayor, the Combined Authority & CNC Robotics for their amazing support, we can’t wait for the final!”

Greenbank High School will return in 2019 to compete in the LCR Make It Work Robotics Challenge Grand Final at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool.
