Big Bang @ Priestley College: Inspirational STEM for Cheshire Schools!
On the 25th of February, All About STEM partnered with Higher Horizons & Priestley College to inspire schools across Cheshire via another fantastic Big Bang North West event.
At The Big Bang @ Priestley College learners were treated to a fun-packed day of awesome STEM activities to excite and enthuse them about science, technology, engineering and maths.
Priestley College offered students interesting, surprising and explosive activities during their chemistry and biology workshops.
Pupils had the chance to extract DNA from kiwi fruit like real-life scientists, they were wowed by a flaming ‘whoosh bottle’ and made erupting ‘elephant toothpaste!’
Creative Hut showcased the new SPIKE Prime resource from LEGO Education.
SPIKE Prime is a powerful STEAM learning solution for years 7-9 that combines LEGO bricks, Scratch programming language, and a programmable multi-port Hub.
Attendees loved getting to grips with the kits and building their bots ready to race!
“It’s not every day you can go on a school trip & say you’ve built your own eco-system!”
With Farm Urban groups learned all about sustainability. They discovered aquaponics and built their own Produce Pod.
“This is brilliant! Fish fertilise the plants & the plants purify the water for the fish.”
To end the day schools took their computing skills to new heights by coding cutting-edge aviation technology with Mako Create UK.
The idea of flying drones in class had everyone giddy with excitement but students excelled by mastering in-flight back-flips too. Phenomenal!

The Big Bang @ School supports schools to deliver an event to excite pupils about STEM subjects and inspire them to consider science or engineering careers.
A Big Bang @ School Fair can be big or small, you can invite local businesses to take part, involve STEM ambassadors, bring in activity providers or do it all by yourself. The important thing is that pupils have fun finding out where their STEM studies can lead them.
The Big Bang @ School is part of the wider Big Bang programme, led by EngineeringUK in partnership with over 200 organisations.
